Detailed itinerary

Day 1: Kigali city tour after pick up at the airport & visit Volcanoes National Park

Find your Rwanda safari guide for a warm welcome at Kigali airport. Later, have a quick briefing on your 3 days Rwanda gorilla tour and embark on Kigali city tour afterwards. This is for early arrivals and the essential places to visit today include Kigali genocide centre, Kandt museum, craft markets and others. You will then be transferred after lunch to Ruhengeri to check in at a gorilla lodge in Volcanoes National Park.

Accommodation:

  • Budget: Garden Palace Hotel or Kinigi Guesthouse
  • Mid-range: Le Bambou Lodge or Da Vinci Lodge
  • Luxury: Five Volcanoes Lodge or Mountain Gorilla View Lodge/Bisate Lodge

Day 2: Gorilla trekking & community tour/Twin Lake tour

Get up early to make adequate preparation and later, be served breakfast. Set off for briefing early morning at the park offices in Kinigi where you will meet officials. Get verified and join others to be briefed on guidelines to follow on gorilla trekking. Later, gorilla families will be assigned to different groups of trekkers, each led by an armed and experienced park guide. However, we advise you come with some bottled drinking water and snacks because you can’t tell how long you will take on a trek.

Expect to spend about 2-6 hours on gorilla trek which covers 1 hour of magical encounter with a gorilla family in the wild. Take pictures, learn their distinct behaviors and ask all questions to get to understand more about these rare apes. After, return to relax at the lodge, have lunch.  Later, visit Iby’Iwacu village for cultural entertainment or go enjoy Twin Lake tour where you will take a boat ride to one of its islands.

Accommodation:

  • Budget: Garden Palace Hotel or Kinigi Guesthouse
  • Mid-range: Le Bambou Lodge or Da Vinci Lodge
  • Luxury: Five Volcanoes Lodge or Mountain Gorilla View Lodge/Bisate Lodge

Day 3: Golden monkey tracking & departure

Enjoy your tasty cup of Rwanda tea/coffee and after, expect to be at Kinigi for briefing from park official. Today, your trek will be to see golden monkeys in their natural habitat. These are beautiful primate species that only reside within the Virunga region (Uganda, Rwanda and Congo). You will spend 2-4 hours on golden monkey trek but this includes 1 hour with golden monkeys then you get back. Next, you drive back to Kigali.
