What to Pack for Gorilla Trekking in Uganda

Essential gorilla trekking gear
- Hiking boots — ankle support, broken in, waterproof
- Long trousers & long sleeves — nettles and thorns
- Gardening gloves — grip vegetation on steep sections
- Light rain jacket — rain any month in Bwindi
- Day pack — water (2L), snacks, camera (no flash)
- Neutral colours — green, brown, khaki
Porter and tipping
Porter ($15–20 tip) — strongly recommended for Rushaga and Nkuringo. Walking stick often provided at headquarters.

Frequently asked questions
Can I wear shorts for gorilla trekking?
Not recommended — long trousers protect against nettles and insects.
Are porters necessary?
Optional but strongly advised for steep sectors (Nkuringo, Rushaga). Supports local community income.
Can I bring a drone?
No — drones are prohibited in Uganda national parks without special UWA permission.
