Three days, one wish: chimpanzees in Kibale Forest. You trek from Kanyanchu on day two, then walk the Bigodi wetland with a community guide for birds and monkeys, and the road does the rest. A private trip from Entebbe with your own vehicle and driver-guide.

Book this Kibale chimpanzee trek with Mwanzo Tours, a UTB-licensed Kampala operator. It sits in our Uganda safari tour packages collection and our 2027 safari packages guide. Read the Kibale chimpanzee guide or the Kibale destination page.

From US$1,400 per person, 2 sharing a double room, mid-range lodges, foreign non-resident adults, standard 2027 dates (not April, May or November), excluding international flights. Your written quote confirms the final price. Prices checked: 27 October 2026.

Why this safari?

Chimpanzees are the point of this trip. Day two is built around one trek from Kanyanchu in Kibale Forest, followed by a gentler afternoon on the Bigodi wetland trail, where a community guide shows you birds and monkeys.

Who is this safari for?

Adults and teenagers aged 16 and over with three days to spare. The tariff gives 12 as the chimpanzee tracking age while the Kibale park page says 16, so we check with UWA before selling a permit to anyone younger.

Physical difficulty

Forest walking. Chimpanzee tracking follows forest trails that can be muddy in wetter months. The Bigodi wetland walk is gentler.

Best time to go

Chimpanzee sightings are usually reliable all year. January, February, June to September and December are the busier months, and April, May and November bring muddier, slippery trails. April, May and November are UWA's low-season months, when the permit rates differ and low-season permits cannot be rescheduled. We confirm the rate for your dates in writing before you pay.

Serah Foundation, where your booking goes

Every Mwanzo safari contributes to Serah Foundation, a registered community organisation supporting education, health outreach, and livelihood programmes in communities bordering Bwindi and Queen Elizabeth. We publish what your booking supports; this is not a vague "community fee."

Common questions

How much does the 3-day Kibale chimpanzee trek cost?

From US$1,400 per person, 2 sharing a double room, with mid-range lodges, on standard 2027 dates and excluding international flights. The $300 chimpanzee permit is inside the price. Your written quote confirms the final figure.

Is the chimpanzee permit included?

Yes. The 2027 chimpanzee permit, $300 per person at the foreign non-resident rate, is inside the from-price. We buy it once your deposit is paid, because UWA no longer holds unpaid permits.

Is three days enough for Kibale chimpanzees?

Yes, for one trek. Days one and three are long road days and day two is your trek and wetland walk. If you want gorillas too, see our 4-day trip that adds Bwindi.

What is the minimum age for chimpanzee tracking?

The UWA tariff says 12 and the Kibale park page says 16. We recommend 16 and over, and we check with UWA before selling a permit to anyone younger.

What changes in April, May or November?

UWA treats these as low-season months with different permit rates, and low-season permits cannot be rescheduled. The from-price is for standard dates, so we confirm your rate in writing.
