Both great apes in four days. You track chimpanzees at Kanyanchu in Kibale, then drive on to Buhoma in Bwindi for a gorilla trek. It is a compact private trip for fit travellers who accept long road days.

Book this chimpanzee and gorilla safari with Mwanzo Tours, a UTB-licensed Kampala operator. It belongs to our Uganda safari tour packages and our 2027 safari packages guide. Compare with our other 4-day gorillas and chimpanzees trip.

From US$2,879 per person, 2 sharing a double room, mid-range lodges, foreign non-resident adults, standard 2027 dates (not April, May or November), excluding international flights. Your written quote confirms the final price. Prices checked: 27 October 2026.

Why this safari?

You see Uganda's two great apes back to back: chimpanzees in Kibale on day two, mountain gorillas in Buhoma on day three. Because the gorilla nights are at Buhoma, trek day itself involves no long transfer.

Who is this safari for?

Fit adults aged 16 and over who want both apes in four days and accept long road days. Gorilla trekking has a minimum age of 15. The Kibale chimpanzee age is 12 on the tariff and 16 on the park page, so we check with UWA for younger guests.

Physical difficulty

Moderate to strenuous. Gorilla treks last 1 to 6 hours on steep forest trails. Day 2 is a morning trek followed by a long drive, so we book the earliest chimpanzee slot.

Best time to go

Gorilla and chimpanzee trekking run all year. January, February, June to September and December are the busier months, so book early. April, May and November are UWA low season, with different permit rates and no permit rescheduling. April, May and November are UWA's low-season months, when the permit rates differ and low-season permits cannot be rescheduled. We confirm the rate for your dates in writing before you pay.

Common questions

How much does the 4-day chimpanzees and gorillas trip cost?

From US$2,879 per person, 2 sharing a double room, with mid-range lodges, on standard 2027 dates and excluding international flights. Both permits are in the price. Your written quote confirms the final figure.

Are both permits included?

Yes. The 2027 gorilla permit is $800 and the chimpanzee permit is $300 per person at the foreign non-resident rate, and both are inside the from-price. We buy them once your deposit is paid.

Is the schedule too tight?

It is compact. Day 2 is a morning chimpanzee trek followed by a long drive to Buhoma, and day 4 is a long road day. Trek day for the gorillas has no transfer. If you want more time, add a night.

Can I fly back from Bwindi?

Yes, an optional flight from Kihihi to Entebbe can replace most of the day-4 drive. It is priced separately, and some scheduled flights do not operate in March, April, May and November.

What is the minimum age?

Gorilla trekking has a minimum age of 15. For chimpanzees the tariff says 12 and the Kibale park page says 16, so we check with UWA for younger guests.
