What to Pack for Gorilla Trekking in Uganda

Gorilla trekking packing list for Bwindi — boots, gloves, rain gear, and what to leave at the lodge. Expert tips from Mwanzo Tours guides.

Essential gorilla trekking gear

  • Hiking boots — ankle support, broken in, waterproof
  • Long trousers & long sleeves — nettles and thorns
  • Gardening gloves — grip vegetation on steep sections
  • Light rain jacket — Bwindi is rainforest; rain any month
  • Day pack — water (2L), snacks, camera (no flash)
  • Neutral colours — green, brown, khaki (no bright red)

Optional but recommended

Porter ($15–20) to carry your pack — supports local employment. Walking stick (often provided). Insect repellent. Small tip for guides and trackers (USD cash).
